Interest of the Magellan Tour and the Seville of the Golden Age

The stage of the Sevillian Golden Age is of very high historical relevance. For more than 2 centuries (16th-17th centuries) the city of Seville enjoyed a powerful privilege that makes it the monopoly port of trade with the New World, which means that only Seville manages this important activity.

All the fleets had to leave from Seville, and each and every one of them had to return from America to the same port in the Andalusian city.

This privilege made the most important sailors in the world travel to the city to start their journey to the American continent. Magellan was one of many who came to Seville to offer his idea to the famous “Compañía de Indias” which was the institution that managed the commercial, administrative and scientific activity of navigation from the Iberian Peninsula to overseas territories.
