Punto de Encuentro

Main entrance of the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo.

The Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo is one of the historical heritage gems in the province of Seville. It is located in Santiponce (just a few meters from Itálica).

Founded by Guzmán el Bueno in 1301 as a Monastery that would be ceded to the Cistercian Order to guard his Pantheon, which is in the interior.

In the 15th century a new Order arrived to manage the monastery, the ‘Hermits Hieronymites’. One of its activities was the study and translation of ancient documents and writings, so you can imagine how awesome back in the centuries would be the libraries of this monastery and its importance. But something happened, perhaps secretly the Order started to study books that the Holy Inquisition prohibited, so… yes, problems began….
